Body Contouring : Aluma

Aluma Treatments

Modernly, “Skin Tightening” refers to the application of energy to the skin, which heats the dermis(second layer of skin) while (reportedly) leaving the epidermis (outermost layer of skin), in tact. This heating of the dermis results in microscopic changes and collagen contraction in the dermal layer of the skin. This trauma, although slight, prompts a healing response in the body during which fibroblasts (collagen producing cells) and collagen are produced in order to repair the damage caused. The initial contraction of the collagen combined with the subsequent production of collagen results in tighter, more youthful looking skin.

Skin tightening has become increasingly popular over the past few years and there are many companies espousing the skin tightening benefits of their technologies. After considering all the variables (i.e. pain, safety, recovery time, number of treatments prescribed, effectiveness, and possible side effects) Dr. Maas concluded the Aluma skin renewal system was the best system for his patients.

Aluma Treatments

Aluma employs a radio frequency (RF) technology, which is proven in clinical studies to improve skin texture and laxity. Unlike many of its predecessors, the Aluma is safe, gentle and non-ablative. The Aluma handpiece uses gentle suction to fold the skin, ensuring optimal contact and positioning of the dermis in direct alignment with the path of radio frequency. The combination of this suction positioning and the use of topical conductive lotion concentrate heat deep in the dermis, leading to collagen contraction and regeneration. Heat conduction occurs from the inside out, so there is no pain sensation or damage to the epidermis, which means the patient can return immediately to normal daily activities. Results will be seen gradually over the course of months as collagen is regenerated at the treatment site.

The Aluma has been used successfully on many areas, including the jowls, the neck, the forehead/ brows, around the eyes, as well as the abdomen, knees and arms. Depending on the area(s) to be treated, one treatment typically takes 15 – 45min. Ideally, Aluma treatments are done in a series of 6 with 1 treatment per week for 6 consecutive weeks.
